On Saturday, October 18th, 2008, Mayor Sheila Dixon, along with several of her staff members and Remington residents, kicked off the Mayor’s Fall Harvest at our own Village Green community garden on Fox Street. The Mayor spoke about the importance of greening efforts, highlighting the work of Roy Skeen and other GRIA members in turning the vacant lot on Fox into a vibrant green space in only a year’s time. Several residents were there to cheer on Roy as he was presented with a ceremonial shovel and rake, symbolizing the City’s support of the garden and others like it. In return, Roy presented the Mayor with a basket of vegetables grown in the garden, including carrots, tomatoes, and eggplants.
