Agenda
- BPD Updates
- Remington reported Incidents from March 1 to April 15th – 3 aggravated assault, 1 auto theft, 2 burglaries, 4 larceny, 1 shoplifting, 1 larceny of auto
- April 26th, prescription take back event held at two location: 2812 Reisterstown Road, 820 E 43rd St, BPD will host another one in October, and we can ask for a neighborhood location if we have interest
- Corey brings up increase in outside items getting stolen (bikes, porch packages etc) most likely because it is warming up A – Best deterrent tool is cameras, try and use drop locations for packages if possible, encourages people to report it so if it is a problem it can be tracked and additional patrols sent to the area, other recommendation is to get one of the personal package drops
- Corey brings up the 401 W 26th property, the former Jossey Auto Body, and that it is still having break-ins occurring, requests some sustained check-ins to keep an eye out until the buildings are demolished
- New Major for the Northern District, Major Keira Saunders who will try and be present at next meeting
- States Attorney Office – Darnyl Wharton
- HB0021 – District Court Commissioner Charging Process: designed to prevent people from getting arrested under false charges and that investigations are occurring through the States Attorney Office. This bill did not cross to the other chamber this legislative session.
- HB1442 – Truancy Protecting Program: designed to establish a robust truancy program to assist families struggling with getting their children to stay in school. This bill passed both chambers and has been sent to the governor.
- Firearms Safety and Protections: HB1518 is designed to hold people accountable who leave a legal firearm unsecured in the vicinity of children. This bill did not cross to the other chamber. HB1287 also targets switches that are able to turn a firearm into a semi-automatic firing weapon. This bill did not cross to the other chamber.
- Excessive Force Statute: designed to add criminal penalties when police officers fail to intervene and/or prevent their fellow officers who are unlawfully and intentionally violating the Use of Force law on individuals, and/or those who fail to offer first-aid to the victim of that excessive use of force. (Could not find a specific bill that matches this language.)
- HB 0853 – Second Chance Act: designed to allow individuals who have served 20 years or more in prison the opportunity for a reduced sentence and allow elderly and chronically ill inmates to get the care they need outside of a prison setting.
- GRIA Board Elections in May
- Bylaws require a vote on board members every 2 years. GRIA President can only be President for 2 terms, so Corey is term limited. Treasurer is also a term limited position, but operates on an opposite term (even year) from the remainder of the board.
- The next vote will take place AT the May Community Meeting, May 21st and all Remington residents present in person or virtually are allowed to vote.
- We do have a full slate of executive board members who will run and additional individuals are welcome to run for executive or general board positions.
- Chris Billack – President
- Wynn Engle-Pratt – VP
- Samantha Horn – Secretary
- If there are no challenges to the slate that is put forward, a motion will be made to take a single vote on the entire slate. If that motion passes, then a single vote will be taken. If the motion fails, then each board member will be put up for a separate vote.
