Community Announcements

  • Margaret Brent PTO hosting a fundraiser Happy Hour at Sweet 27 on April 3rd from 5 – 7 pm, a portion of all sales will go to the PTO to help raise funds for classroom needs, Teacher Appreciation Week and the May Day party 
  • Church of the Guardian Angel – Food Pantry every Wednesday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 am inside Kromer Hall, Thrift Shop every 1st and 2nd Saturday of the month from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm downstairs (we are in need of donations of housewares for some newly housed families!), Sunday Episcopal services in English at 10:00 am and Spanish at 11:30 am
  • Mount Royal Night Markets, every 3rd Friday from April through October starting at 5:00 to 9:00 pm, Vintage Market hosted by the Charmers Club the same nights across Huntingdon Ave; first Market is April 19th!
  • Kelsey makes an announcement about Zeke Cohen who is running for City Council President in the primary election Tuesday May 14th, has fliers to hand out, feel free to stop by her house on 200 block of 27th (with all the Zeke Cohen signs!) to ask questions or request materials
  • Emily with Speak Out Now hosting an educational Townhall about environmental “Sacrifice Zones” in areas like Curtis Bay on Saturday April 13th at 7:00 pm at NoMuNoMu, 709 N Howard St. (Information about event with Zoom information if you cannot attend in person)
  • April 15th at Enoch Pratt Central Library, Baltimoreans for Educational Equity is hosting an Educational Forum with the city wide candidates polling in top 3, confirmed so far: Zeke Cohen, Shannon Sneed, Bill Henry, Thiru Vignarajah

  • General Community Updates
    • Chesapeake Bay Trust Grant Update 
      • New grant submitted for $200,000 for additional greening to increase the canopy along side 28th & 29th; application area spans Remington, Harwood, and Charles Village neighborhoods; JHU has offered up some matching funds to increase the impact of any award; will find out in July for possible August/fall work
    • 27th Street Traffic Calming 
      • Planters went in on Saturday along the blocks from Huntingdon to Atkinson, have signs and pinwheels to alert drivers that children are active on the street and to use caution
      • Still planning for DOT install of speed bumps along 27th and 26th (Sisson to Huntingdon on both) in the paving season as the temperatures warm up
      • Inquired with DOT about painting in Stop bars at the new stop sign intersections at Hampden and Miles when the speed bump work occurs
      • Tree work will likely be done by the community or the city to create better visibility at the Hampden intersection specifically for the Stop signs
    • 30th street park improvements
      • Proposed grant project to add a shade sail over the play structure ($25,000 from Central Baltimore Partnership, but still short in funds for the overall project costs), need to go through Department of Parks and Recreation as it is their park, Greenmount school is enthusiastically in support but unable to contribute funds at this time
    • First Dumpster Day of 2024!
      • Thursday March 28th at 23rd and Hampden, starting around 9:00 am until it gets filled
      • Remaining dumpster days are as follows:
        • Thursday June 20th – 26th & Huntingdon
        • Saturday August 3rd – 26th & Huntingdon
        • Saturday December 21st – 30th & Huntingdon
  • RemFest Updates
    • May 11th, Saturday 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm, over a hundred vendors, two stages (11 acts on main stage, 4 booked on family stage), we consider this a fundraiser for GRIA
    • Food vendor line up: 8-10 total is the goal, Sweet 27, Blacksauce (12-5), FishNet, Ekiben, Doppio Pasticceria, Local Oyster, Elevated Kitchen, looking for maybe 1-2 more
    • Family Stage lineup: Kevin Sherry (2 sets), MissionFit family workout, Story time event from Greedy Reads, Super Art Fight
    • Volunteer sign-ups will be going out soon through our email lists and on social media; volunteers will receive a R House gift card for lunch and a RemFest t-shirt
  • Remington Yard Sale
    • Sunday May 5th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
    • Locations set up at Sisson Park, 30th Street Park, and stoop sales across the neighborhood, all locations will be marked on a map
    • Event is on Friends of Remington
  • Facade Grant Award to Ibello Upholstery
    • Location is at Fawcett and Sisson in Lower Remington
    • Grant is set up as 75%/25% split with the awardee paying the 25% up to $20,000 in grant funds
    • The grant will pay for repainting of the building some and new windows
